St. Cloud garages serve many purposes beyond simply housing automobiles—in fact, it’s safe to guess that few exist that don’t also serve as the irreplaceable storage areas for a certain category of household items. We all have our own innate understanding of what makes an item garage-appropriate, even if we’ve never sat down to formalize the list. Leading candidates are an array of things that, if spilled, would make too much of a mess in the house, including motor oil, bird feeder seeds, particularly obnoxious cleaning fluids, WD-40 cans that always drip when you try to use them, etc. Everyone’s own garage-appropriate list is a personal matter that need not be aired in public.

A different level of garage utility came to light last week. In a dispatch from Montana posted on website thedrive.com, it dealt with a local oddity: a Big Sky home with a garage “that is an enthusiast’s dream.” The property went on sale listed at $12,000,000—and unlike most St. Cloud garages, this one is clearly dedicated to a singular purpose: housing autos. A few details of their princely lodging:

·         Parking space for 50 cars

·         9,000 square feet

·         Tiled auto bathing chamber

·         A dyno

·         A gas station with a 1,000-gallon tank

The starring role given the mansion’s garage becomes clear when you discover that the multi-million dollar house has only four bedrooms. That works out to more than a dozen cars for each bedroom. The listing says that car collectors universally acknowledge that the underground garage is “the best of its kind.” No nay-sayers have stepped forward to contradict the claim.

For green advocates who might object to the presence of the gas station, a Tesla charger is included (although no all-electric models are pictured alongside the ’67 ‘Vette and vintage El Camino). Notably, the listing agent clearly knows his prospective buyers—he doesn’t bother to define “dyno,” which is the in-floor rollers under a car’s wheels that let you rev it up in place so you can measure the torque and rotational speed of the engine.
