It first designates nine Key Areas that a chosen group of designers and home remodeling professionals singled out for a trend analysis—areas like “New Destinations” (such as basements and rooftops), “Kitchens” (industrial style or entertainer’s), “Overhead Design” (tongue-and-groove, wallpapered, or high-gloss), etc. The individual components were then compared via their social media traffic counts, with the greatest percentages of growth in online query numbers earning top marks as emerging trendsetters. The most impressive results belonged to—

·         Basement golf simulator (up 1,905%)

·         Rooftop terrace (up 1,555%)

·         Aging-in-place bathroom (up 141%-barely edging out ‘Handicap-accessible bathrooms’ at 137%)

·         Kitchen track lighting (203% just beating ‘Pull-down faucets’)

·         Walk-in kitchen pantry (up 2,636%)

·         Living room divider (up 446%)

·         High-gloss ceiling (up 816%)

·         Spanish Colonial living room (up 1,470%)

·         Small screened-in porch ideas (up 522%)

Area homeowners who are in the planning stages for their own remodeling projects may want to make it a point to explore some of these newly popular design directions—some of which can thank technological advances for moving price points within reach.
